We know clearly from Scripture that our mission as believers in Jesus is to create more disciples of Jesus. This is how we show our love for God and people. When we share the gospel, we are proving our love for Christ, and we are showing our love for people. In other words, we bring God glory by telling God’s story.
This is our mission—to tell God’s story of salvation and urge people to believe. How can you be involved? Here are some ways you can help locally and globally.
Local Opportunities
How can you be involved in making disciples (telling God’s story) here locally? Well, we have several opportunities.
1. Invite people to a worship service or Bible study class. People do not just come on their own initiative much; they need prompting. They also may need help in coming. Offer a ride. Wait for them at the door and walk in with them. Introduce them to other people once they’re here. Make the transition easy for them.
2. Love them in practical ways. It’s difficult for someone to listen to the gospel while their stomach rumbles from hunger. Take it upon yourself to meet their physical needs all the while you tell them of the One who can meet their spiritual needs.
3. Serve at church outreach functions. Our annual Fall Festival is coming up this Sunday night from 4-6 p.m. Each year this is an excellent opportunity to meet people from the community that normally do not come to church. What a great time to meet someone new and begin a spiritual conversation with them. (We still need volunteers and candy!)
Global Opportunity
How can you be involved in making disciples globally? If you already give regularly to FBC, you are involved! A percentage of everything we take in goes to local missions as well as international missions. However, we do have a wonderful opportunity coming up for you to be even more heavily invested financially.
Soon we will be setting our church goal for the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering. Everything that is given to the LMCO goes directly to support missionaries and mission efforts outside the U.S., where about 95% of the world’s population lives. By giving sacrificially and generously, you can be sure that you are helping to fulfill our mission of making disciples of all the nations.
We find our highest joy in Christ when we are fulfilling His mission for us. This means that we will be most joyful in Christ when we are making disciples of Christ. Ask God how he wants you be make disciples, and then let’s get to it! Our joy and the joy of others is at stake.
